More about Music To Go
Go, also known as Weiqi in Chinese, Igo in Japanese, and Baduk in Korean, is a strategic, zero sum, deterministic board game of perfect information originating in ancient China, before 2000 BC. The objective of the game is to control a larger territory than one's opponent by placing one's stones so they cannot be surrounded and captured by the opponent, but can surround and capture any stones the opponent plays inside one's own territory. Music to Go is an installation that allows people to play Go on an electronic game board, collects and analyzes the game data and generates music synchronously from the game. The board can detect the positions and colors of the stones by photo-sensors imbedded in the board. It then sends the game data to a computer, which does all the further processing and music generating work. In particular, the computer does pattern recognition, data processing, and algorithm composition. After processing the game data, the computer plays back sound to speakers surrounding the players.
